From May 15 to 17, 2026, the 3rd International Conference on Smart Grid and Artificial Intelligence (SGAI 2026), hosted by East China Jiaotong University, organized by the School of Electrical and Automation Engineering of East China Jiaotong University, and technically supported by IEEE and IEEE Smart Cities, was successfully held in Nanchang, Jiangxi Province.

More than 120 experts, scholars, engineers, technicians, and young students from universities, research institutions, and enterprises gathered in the “Hero City” to engage in in-depth exchanges on frontier topics such as the integrated development of smart grids and artificial intelligence, the construction of new power systems, intelligent optimization of power systems, and knowledge- and data-driven fusion technologies.

Opening Remarks: Focusing on Interdisciplinary Integration and Discussing the Future of Energy

The opening ceremony was chaired by Professor Gao Bo of East China Jiaotong University. Professor Tong Lihong, Director of the Scientific Research Office and Dean of the Institute of Science and Technology Development at East China Jiaotong University, delivered the opening address. He extended a warm welcome to the attending experts, scholars, industry colleagues, and young students, and expressed sincere gratitude to all those who have long supported the development of smart grids, artificial intelligence, and new power systems. Professor Li Zewen noted that the deep integration of smart grids and artificial intelligence is becoming an important direction at the intersection of the energy revolution, digital transformation, and industrial upgrading. He expressed the hope that the conference would serve as an academic platform for connecting disciplines, linking academia and industry, and inspiring collaboration, thereby further promoting interdisciplinary integration and innovative development in related fields.

Keynote Reports: Leading the Frontier and Inspiring New Ideas The conference invited five experts and scholars to deliver keynote reports.

Professor Li Zuyi of Zhejiang University, a national-level talent and IEEE Fellow, delivered a report titled *Intelligent Optimization Computing for Power Systems*, sharing insights into intelligent optimization methods and applications in power systems. Professor Yan Mingyu of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, a national-level young talent, presented *Grid Aggregation Methods for Coordinated Power Grid Optimization*, discussing aggregation modeling and analytical approaches in the context of coordinated power grid optimization. Professor Li Peiqiang of Hunan University delivered a report titled *Development Vision and Technological Breakthroughs in the Construction of New Power Systems*, explaining key challenges and technical directions in building new power systems. Associate Professor Liu Zhao of Beijing Jiaotong University presented *Applications of Knowledge- and Data-Driven Fusion Technologies in Power Systems*, showcasing practical integration between artificial intelligence technologies and power system operation analysis. Associate Researcher Luo Cheng of Huazhong University of Science and Technology shared the latest research progress in motor control through his report *Research on Sensorless and Fault-Tolerant Operation Control Strategies for Aero Multi-Electric Starter/Generators*. The five keynote reports covered a wide range of topics, including power system optimization computing, coordinated dispatching, source-grid-load-storage coordination, new power system construction, knowledge and data fusion, and control of aero multi-electric systems. Together, they presented participants with research highlights and development trends at the intersection of smart grids and artificial intelligence. The on-site discussions were lively, with experts and scholars engaging in in-depth exchanges on technical challenges, application scenarios, and future collaboration.

Thematic Exchanges and Awards: Young Scholars Showcase Their Work and Exchange Ideas The afternoon oral presentation session focused on topics including photovoltaic power forecasting, wind power prediction, grid-forming inverter control, voltage security dispatching for photovoltaic-storage microgrids in industrial parks, high-altitude arc simulation, coordinated control and energy management of photovoltaic-hydrogen-storage DC microgrids, and optimal dispatching of integrated energy systems. Young scholars from institutions including Beijing Information Science and Technology University, China University of Mining and Technology, East China Jiaotong University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and China Energy Engineering Group Jiangsu Power Design Institute Co., Ltd. presented their research findings in succession and engaged in interactive discussions with attending experts and peers. During the conference, awards for Excellent Paper, Excellent Poster, and Excellent Oral Presentation were also presented to encourage young researchers to actively showcase innovative achievements and improve their academic communication skills.

A Brief Conference, Lasting Exchanges On the afternoon of May 16, the 3rd International Conference on Smart Grid and Artificial Intelligence (SGAI 2026) successfully came to a close. Participants noted that the conference not only broadened their academic horizons, but also promoted interdisciplinary dialogue among smart grids, artificial intelligence, power electronics, integrated energy systems, and other related fields, laying a solid foundation for future research collaboration and the transformation of research outcomes.
